Common questions

Why do PDFs need compressing?
PDFs from scanners or office exports often embed full-resolution images. Compression downsamples those images to web-friendly sizes, sometimes shrinking the PDF to 10-30% of its original.
Will quality drop visibly?
For email/web use (200 dpi or below), no — text stays sharp and images look fine on screens. For print use (300 dpi), pick the High preset to keep print-quality detail.
Is compress free?
Free for the first 10 server-side conversions per month (no signup). After that, Pro at $5/mo gives you 200/mo, Premium ($15/mo) is unlimited.
Why isn't compress free like merge?
Compress requires a server-side image processing pipeline (ConvertAPI in our case). Merge can run in the browser; compress can't, at least not at the same quality.
